Security Bulletin

Summary

The IBM Emptoris Strategic Supply Management Suite and IBM Emptoris Services
Procurement products are affected by multiple security vulnerabilities that
exist in IBM SDK Java Technology Edition and IBM WebSphere Application Server.
The security bulletin includes issues disclosed as part of the IBM Java SDK
updates in January 2016 and includes the vulnerability commonly referred to as
"SLOTH" that affects IBM WebSphere Application Server. These may affect some
configurations of IBM WebSphere Application Server Full Profile.

Vulnerability Details

This bulletin covers all applicable Java SE CVE's published by Oracle as part
of their January 2016 Critical Patch Update which affects IBM SDK, Java
Technology Edition. There are other advisories included in the IBM Java SDK
and IBM WebSphere Application Server bulletins, but IBM Emptoris products are
not vulnerable to them. In addition, this bulletin also covers the cross-site
scripting vulnerability that affects IBM WebSphere Application Server OAuth
provider output consumed by some IBM Emptoris products.

CVEID: CVE-2015-7575

DESCRIPTION: The TLS protocol could allow weaker than expected security caused
by a collision attack when using the MD5 hash function for signing a
ServerKeyExchange message during a TLS handshake. An attacker could exploit
this vulnerability using man-in-the-middle techniques to impersonate a TLS
server and obtain credentials. This vulnerability is commonly known as
"SLOTH".

CVSS Base Score: 7.1

CVEID: CVE-2016-0466

DESCRIPTION: An unspecified vulnerability related to the JAXP component could
allow a remote attacker to cause a denial of service.

CVSS Base Score: 5

CVSS Temporal Score: See

CVEID: CVE-2015-7417

DESCRIPTION: IBM WebSphere Application Server is vulnerable to cross-site
scripting, caused by improper validation of user-supplied input. A remote
attacker could exploit this vulnerability using a specially-crafted URL to
execute script in a victim's Web browser within the security context of the
hosting Web site, once the URL is clicked. An attacker could use this
vulnerability to steal the victim's cookie-based authentication credentials.

CVSS Base Score: 5.4

score

Remediation/Fixes

Interim fixes have been issued for the IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS)
which will apply the needed fixes on WebSphere and also upgrade the IBM Java
Development Kit to a version which is not susceptible to these
vulnerabilities. Customers running any of the IBM Emptoris products listed
above should apply the interim fix to all IBM WebSphere Application Server
installations that are used to run IBM Emptoris applications. See Multiple
vulnerabilities in IBM Java SDK affect WebSphere Application Server January
2016 CPU and Cross-site scripting vulnerability in IBM WebSphere Application
Server for OAuth consumers for more details on upgrade versions.

Step 1:

Select the appropriate WebSphere Application Server fix based on the version
being used for IBM Emptoris product version. The following table lists the IBM
Emptoris application versions along with the corresponding required version of
IBM WebSphere Application Server and a link to the corresponding fix version
where further installation instructions are provided.

IBM Emptoris Product Version IBM WebSphere Version Interim Fix

IBM Emptoris Suite 9.5.x.x 8.0.0.x 1. Apply PI49272 to fix OAuth Cross Site
Scripting in WebSphere

								2. Upgrade to WebSphere Application Server Fix Pack 8.0.0.7 or later then
apply the interim fix below: Apply Interim Fix PI55780: Will upgrade you to
IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition, Version 6R1 Service Refresh 8 Fix Pack 20

IBM Emptoris Suite 10.0.0.x, 10.0.1.x	8.5.0.x 1. Apply PI49272 to fix OAuth Cross Site Scripting in WebSphere

								2. Upgrade to WebSphere Application Server Full Profile Fix Pack 8.5.5.1 or
later then apply Interim Fix PI55778: Will upgrade you to IBM SDK, Java
Technology Edition, Version 6R1 Service Refresh 8 Fix Pack 20

IBM Emptoris Suite 10.0.2.x ,10.0.3.x 8.5.5.x 1. Apply PI49272 to fix OAuth Cross Site Scripting in WebSphere

								2. Upgrade to WebSphere Application Server Full Profile Fix Pack 8.5.5.2 or
later then apply Interim Fix PI55775: Will upgrade you to IBM SDK, Java
Technology Edition, Version 7R1 Service Refresh 3 Fix Pack 30

IBM Emptoris Suite 10.0.4, 10.1 8.5.5.x 1. Apply PI49272 to fix OAuth Cross Site Scripting in WebSphere

								2. Apply PI55775 . Will upgrade you to IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition,
Version 7R1 Service Refresh 3 Fix Pack 30

IBM Emptoris Services 8.5.0.x Upgrade to WebSphere Application Server Full Profile Fix Pack 8.5.5.1 or later then
Procurement 10.0.0.x, apply Interim Fix PI55778: Will upgrade you to IBM SDK, Java Technology Edition,
Version 6R1 Service Refresh 8 Fix Pack 20

Step 2:

After you have applied the correct Interim Fix as noted in the above table for
your version of the IBM Emptoris Product, you will also need to manually
update your WASHOME/java/jre/lib/security/java.security file to add MD5 and
MD5withRSA as noted below:

   jdk.tls.disabledAlgorithms=SSLv3, RC4, DH keySize <768, MD5withRSA

   jdk.certpath.disabledAlgorithms=MD2, RSA keySize <1024, MD5

- --OR--

You can choose to apply Interim Fix PI54960 to the WebSphere Application
Server Full Profile. This interim fix will programatically update those values
for you during the SSL initialization. Link to Interim Fix PI54960

Workarounds and Mitigations

For CVE-2015-7575:

Users of Java 7 and later can address the issue by updating the
WASHOME/java/jre/lib/security/java.security file as follows (both steps are
required):

 Add MD5 to the jdk.certpath.disabledAlgorithms property - e.g.
jdk.certpath.disabledAlgorithms=MD2, RSA keySize < 1024, MD5

 Add MD5withRSA to the jdk.tls.disabledAlgorithms property - e.g.
jdk.tls.disabledAlgorithms=SSLv3, RC4, DH keySize < 768, MD5withRSA

Java 6 requires code changes in the JSSE component in addition to the
java.security file modifications, so upgrading the JDK is the only solution.
