Comment: This advisory references vulnerabilities in the Linux kernel that 
         also affect distributions other than Ubuntu. It is recommended that
         administrators running Linux check for an updated version of the 
         kernel for their system.

AccountsService could be made to crash or run programs as an administrator
if it received a specially crafted command.

Details

Kevin Backhouse discovered that AccountsService incorrectly handled memory
when performing certain language setting operations. A local attacker could
use this issue to escalate privileges.

Update instructions

The problem can be corrected by updating your system to the following package
versions:

Ubuntu 21.10

  o libaccountsservice0 - 0.6.55-0ubuntu14.1

Ubuntu 21.04

  o accountsservice - 0.6.55-0ubuntu13.3

  o libaccountsservice0 - 0.6.55-0ubuntu12~20.04.5

After a standard system update you need to reboot your computer to make
all the necessary changes.
