K32049501: BIG-IP APM vulnerability CVE-2021-22985

Original Publication Date: 11 Feb, 2021

Security Advisory Description

Under certain conditions, when processing VPN traffic with APM, TMM consumes
excessive memory. A malicious, authenticated VPN user may abuse this to perform
a DoS attack against the APM. (CVE-2021-22985)

Impact

The BIG-IP APM system may consume excessive memory and cause the Traffic
Management Microkernel (TMM) to exit and restart. If you configured your BIG-IP
APM system for high availability (HA), it may fail over to a standby system.

The first visible symptoms of this issue are the system triggering the memory
sweeper and terminating connections. Eventually, TMM runs out of memory and
fails over.

Security Advisory Status

F5 Product Development has assigned ID 942921 (BIG-IP) to this vulnerability.

To determine if your product and version have been evaluated for this
vulnerability, refer to the Applies to (see versions) box. To determine if your
