Summary:

A potential security vulnerability in the Intel Solid State Drive (SSD) Toolbox
may allow escalation of privilege. Intel is not releasing updates to mitigate
this potential vulnerability and has replaced it with the Intel Memory and
Storage (MAS) Tool.

Vulnerability Details:

CVEID: CVE-2020-8701

Description: Incorrect default permissions in installer for the Intel(R) SSD
Toolbox versions before 2/9/2021 may allow a privileged user to potentially
enable escalation of privilege via local access.

CVSS Base Score: 7.4 High

Affected Products:

Intel SSD Toolbox version before 2/9/2021.

Recommendations:

Intel recommends removing the Intel SSD Toolbox and use the Intel MAS Tool
going forward.
