K36228121: BIG-IP DHCPv6 vulnerability CVE-2019-6643

Security Advisory

Original Publication Date: 09 Aug, 2019

Security Advisory Description

An attacker sending specifically crafted DHCPv6 requests through a BIG-IP
virtual server configured with a DHCPv6 profile may be able to cause the
Traffic Management Microkernel (TMM) process to produce a core file. (
CVE-2019-6643)

Impact

This vulnerability may allow an attacker who can route DHCPv6 requests to the
BIG-IP system to cause a remote denial of service (DoS) on the BIG-IP system.
If configured in a high-availability (HA) pair, the active BIG-IP device fails
over to the standby BIG-IP device.

Security Advisory Status

F5 Product Development has assigned ID 726393 (BIG-IP) to this vulnerability.

To determine if your product and version have been evaluated for this
vulnerability, refer to the Applies to (see versions) box. To determine if your

Security Advisory Recommended Actions

If you are running a version listed in the Versions known to be vulnerable
column, you can eliminate this vulnerability by upgrading to a version listed
in the Fixes introduced in column. If the table lists only an older version
than what you are currently running, or does not list a non-vulnerable version,
then no upgrade candidate currently exists.

Mitigation
