K10065173:TMM TLS virtual server vulnerability CVE-2019-6593

Security Advisory

Original Publication Date: 26 Feb, 2019

Security Advisory Description

A BIG-IP virtual server configured with a Client SSL profile may be vulnerable
to a chosen ciphertext attack against CBC ciphers. When exploited, this may
result in plaintext recovery of encrypted messages through a man-in-the-middle
(MITM) attack, despite the attacker not having gained access to the server's
private key itself. (CVE-2019-6593 also known as Zombie POODLE and
GOLDENDOODLE)

Impact

Exploiting this vulnerability to perform plaintext recovery of encrypted data
may reveal session authentication cookies similar to CVE-2014-3566 (POODLE).
Only TLS sessions established using CBC mode encryption are vulnerable to this
attack.

To exploit this vulnerability, the attacker must have a privileged network
position to intercept controlled HTTPS requests, which are generally initiated
via JavaScript originating in any browser context.

Security Advisory Status

F5 Product Development has assigned ID 580596 (BIG-IP) to this vulnerability.

To determine if your product and version have been evaluated for this
vulnerability, refer to the Applies to (see versions) box. To determine if your
release is known to be vulnerable, the components or features that are affected
by the vulnerability, and for information about releases or hotfixes that
address the vulnerability, refer to the following table. For more information
about security advisory versioning, refer to K51812227: Understanding Security
Advisory versioning.

in the Fixes introduced in column. If the table lists only an older version
than what you are currently running, or does not list a non-vulnerable version,
then no upgrade candidate currently exists.

Mitigation

None
