(CVE-2014-9402) Impact This vulnerability can only be exploited if you explicitly enable DNS for networks in the Name Service Switch Configuration file (/etc/nsswitch.conf). By default, the BIG-IP system does not have DNS enabled for networks in the Name Service Switch configuration and is not vulnerable. An attacker with local access and knowledge of how to make the glibc function trigger an exploit may be able to cause a denial-of-service (DoS). Security Advisory Status F5 Product Development has assigned ID 510311 (BIG-IP), ID 511756 (Enterprise Manager), ID 511755 (BIG-IQ) and ID 476571 (ARX) to this vulnerability, and has evaluated the currently supported releases for potential vulnerability. Additionally, BIG-IP iHealth may list Heuristic H515699 on the Diagnostics > Identified > High screen. To determine if your release is known to be vulnerable, the components or features that are affected by the vulnerability, and for information about releases or hotfixes that address the vulnerability, refer to the following table. +-----------------+---------------+----------------+----------+---------------+ | |Versions known |Versions known | |Vulnerable | |Product |to be |to be not |Severity |component or | | |vulnerable |vulnerable | |feature | +-----------------+---------------+----------------+----------+---------------+ | |14.0.0 | | | | | |13.0.0 - If the table lists only an older version than what you are currently running, or does not list a non-vulnerable version, then no upgrade candidate currently exists. If you have manually enabled DNS for networks in the Name Service Switch Configuration file, you can mitigate this vulnerability by disabling DNS for networks in the Name Service Switch Configuration file (/etc/nsswitch.conf). Additionally, you should permit access to F5 products only over a secure network, and limit login access to trusted users.
