Security Advisory Description
The BIG-IP system is vulnerable to a denial of service attack when the MPTCP
option is enabled on a virtual server. Data plane is vulnerable when using the
MPTCP option of a TCP profile. There is no control plane exposure. (
CVE-2017-6159)
Impact
An attacker may be able to disrupt services by causing the Traffic Management
Microkernel (TMM) to restart, hence temporarily failing to process traffic.

Security Advisory Description
In some cases TMM may crash when processing TCP traffic. (CVE-2017-6162)
Impact
This vulnerability affects the Traffic Management Microkernel (TMM) through a
virtual server configured with TCP profile. Traffic processing is disrupted
while TMM restarts. If the affected BIG-IP system is configured as part of a
device group, it will trigger a failover to the peer device.

- Tail Loss Probe (tail-loss-probe) setting of the Loss Detection and
Recovery section is disabled (default)
- Fast Open (fast-open) setting of the Connection Setup section is
disabled (default)
- Congestion Metrics Cache Timeout (cmetrics-cache-timeout) setting of
the Congestion Control section is set to zero (default)
- Congestion Control (congestion-control) setting of the Congestion
Control section is set to one of the following:
- Reno
- New Reno
- High Speed (default)
- Scalable
- Nagle's Algorithm setting of the Data Transfer section is set to either
Enabled or Disabled (default)
Security Advisory Recommended Actions
If you are running a version listed in the Versions known to be vulnerable
column, you can eliminate this vulnerability by upgrading to a version listed
in the Versions known to be not vulnerable column. If the table lists only an
older version than what you are currently running, or does not list a
non-vulnerable version, then no upgrade candidate currently exists.
To determine the necessary upgrade path for your BIG-IQ system, you should
understand the BIG-IQ product offering name changes. For more information,
refer to K21232150: Considerations for upgrading BIG-IQ or F5 iWorkflow systems
.
Mitigation
To mitigate this vulnerability, you can enable the Verified Accept setting of
the TCP profile associated with the affected virtual server. To do so, perform
the following procedure:
Impact of action: Performing the following procedure should not have a negative
impact on your system.
1. Log in to the Configuration utility.
2. Navigate to Local Traffic > Profiles > Protocol > TCP.
3. Click on the name of the desired TCP profile.
4. To enable the setting, select Verified Accept; this setting is disabled by
default.
5. To save the change, click Update.
