Vulnerability Alert

Cisco Unified MeetingPlace Microsoft Outlook Reflected Cross-Site Scripting
Vulnerability

Threat Type: CWE-79: Cross-Site Scripting (XSS)

IntelliShield ID: 39161

Version: 1

First Published: 2015 June 02 19:49 GMT

Last Published: 2015 June 02 19:49 GMT

Port: Not available

CVE: CVE-2015-0762

Urgency: Unlikely Use

Credibility: Confirmed

Severity: Mild Damage

CVSS Base: 4.3

CVSS Version 2.0

CVSS Temporal: 4.1

Version Summary: Cisco Unified MeetingPlace contains a vulnerability that
could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to conduct reflected
cross-site scripting attacks. Updates are not available.

Description

A vulnerability in the HTTP web-based management interface of the Cisco
Unified MeetingPlace for Microsoft Outlook could allow an unauthenticated,
remote attacker to conduct a reflected cross-site scripting (XSS) attack
against a user of the web interface of the affected system. The XSS attack can
be executed from the client browser or within Microsoft Outlook.

The vulnerability is due to insufficient input validation of a user-supplied
value. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a user to
click on a specific link. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to
execute arbitrary script in the context of the affected site or allow the
attacker to access sensitive browser-based information.

Cisco has confirmed the vulnerability; however, software updates are not
available.

Warning Indicators

At the time this alert was first published, Cisco Unified MeetingPlace
versions 8.6(1.2) and 8.6(1.9) were vulnerable. Later versions of Cisco
Unified MeetingPlace may also be vulnerable.

IntelliShield Analysis

To exploit the vulnerability, the attacker may provide a link that directs a
user to a malicious site and uses misleading language or instructions to
persuade the user to follow the link.

Cisco indicates through the CVSS score that functional exploit code exists;
however, the code is not known to be publicly available.

Vendor Announcements

Cisco has released bug ID CSCuu51400 for registered users, which contains
additional details and an up-to-date list of affected product versions.

Impact

An unauthenticated, remote attacker could exploit this vulnerability to
execute arbitrary code in the user's browser session in the context of the
affected site. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to access
sensitive browser-based information such as authentication cookies and
recently submitted data.

Technical Information

The vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input
processed by an affected device.

An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by convincing a user to click on
a specific link. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to execute
arbitrary script or code in the context of the affected site or allow the
attacker to access sensitive browser-based information.

Safeguards

Administrators are advised to contact the vendor regarding future updates and
releases.

Users are advised not to open email messages from suspicious or unrecognized
sources. If users cannot verify that links or attachments included in email
messages are safe, they are advised not to open them.

Users should verify that unsolicited links are safe to follow.

For additional information about XSS attacks and the methods used to exploit
these vulnerabilities, see the Cisco Applied Mitigation Bulletin Understanding
Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) Threat Vectors.

Administrators are advised to monitor affected systems.

Patches/Software

Software updates are not available.
