Cisco IOS XR Software Punt Policer Denial of Service Vulnerability
http://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityNotice/CVE-2014-3308

CVE ID: CVE-2014-3308

Release Date: 2014 July 3 13:13 UTC (GMT)

Last Updated: 2014 July 3 13:13 UTC (GMT)

Summary

A vulnerability in the implementation of the punt policer on Trident line
cards in Cisco ASR 9000 Series routers could allow an unauthenticated, remote
attacker to overload the CPU on the Trident line card or Route Processor (RP)
and eventually cause a denial of service (DoS) condition for traffic in some
queues.

The vulnerability is due to a missing static punt policer for traffic that is
destined to an affected device. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability
by sending a large number of specific packets that are destined to an affected
device. An exploit could allow the attacker to overload the CPU on the Trident
line card or Route Processor (RP) and eventually cause a denial of service
(DoS) condition for traffic in some queues.

What Is a Cisco Security Notice?

The Cisco Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) publishes Cisco
Security Notices to inform customers of low- to mid-level severity security
issues involving Cisco products.

Customers who wish to upgrade to a software version that includes fixes for
these issues should contact their normal support channels. Free software
updates will not be provided for issues that are disclosed through a Cisco
Security Notice.

For additional information about Cisco PSIRT publications, see the Cisco
Security Vulnerability Policy at

Customers Using Third-Party Support Organizations

prior or existing agreements with third-party support organizations, such as
Cisco Partners, authorized resellers, or service providers. For these
products, customers should consult their service providers or support

appropriate in the intended network before it is deployed.
