In order to cause an email message to be encrypted, a user must click the "Send Secure" button to securely deliver the email message. If multiple email messages are being composed simultaneously and the "Send Secure" button is used to send more than one of the email messages, an error condition may occur where only the first email message sent is successfully encrypted. The remaining email messages sent using the "Send Secure" button will not be encrypted and may result in the disclosure of sensitive information if intercepted by an unauthorized party. There is a workaround for this issue. Below is an example image showing a Microsoft Outlook email composition window with the Cisco Ironport Flag Plug-in for Outlook installed. Users with no "Send Secure" icon in their Outlook client do not have the plug-in installed and are not affected. <<< See online version for image >>> This response is posted at: http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/707/cisco-sr-20100511-ironport.shtml Additional Information ====================== Cisco IronPort Desktop Flag Plug-in for Outlook versions from 6.2.4.3 up to but not including 6.5.0-006 are affected by this issue. Cisco IronPort is currently developing a software fix that will be available via the Cisco IronPort support website. This Security Response will be updated once version information for the fixed software is available. This issue is documented in Cisco IronPort bug 65623 and has been assigned Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) identifier CVE-2010-1568. Workaround +--------- It is possible to mitigate this issue by ensuring that only one email composition window is open when using the "Send Secure" button. Secure email messages should be composed one at a time until a fixed version of the Cisco IronPort Desktop Flag Plug-in for Outlook can be installed.
