PLATFORM: HP 9000 Series 700/800s running versions of HP-UX 10.X DAMAGE: Vulnerabilities exist allowing users to increase privileges. SOLUTION: **REVISED 01** Change the permissions of the following files to 0555: /opt/mpower_2.0/setup/mp_start_vue /opt/mpower_2.0/share/mpStrtVue.cl /opt/mpower_2.0/share/mpStrtVue.sr /opt/scan/rtw/appconfig/toolboxes/C/utilities/Media/Scanner /opt/scan/rtw/appconfig/vuetoolboxes/C/Media/Scanner /opt/fax/bin/init_cover or apply PHSS_9773. NOTE: /opt/fax/bin/init_cover was added to the list as of Revision 1 of this bulletin. AVAILABILITY: PHSS_9773 is available now. _________________________________________________________________________ I. A. Background The files listed install with incorrect permissions. B. Fixing the problem The permissions should be 0555. C. Recommended solution Install PHSS_9773. D. Impact of the patch PHSS_9773 changes the permissions. Note that /opt/fax/bin/init_cover will now work only for users "root" and "fax". E.
