Security Advisory Description

glibc contains a vulnerability that allows specially crafted LD_LIBRARY_PATH
values to manipulate the heap/stack, causing them to alias, potentially
resulting in arbitrary code execution. Please note that additional hardening
changes have been made to glibc to prevent manipulation of stack and heap
memory but these issues are not directly exploitable, as such they have not
been given a CVE. This affects glibc 2.25 and earlier. (CVE-2017-1000366)

Impact

This vulnerability allows unauthorized disclosure of information, unauthorized
modification, and disruption of service.

Security Advisory Status

F5 Product Development has assigned IDs 670410 and 670405 (BIG-IP), ID 670773
(BIG-IQ), ID 670771 (Enterprise Manager), ID 671301 (F5 iWorkflow), and IDs
CPF-24103, CPF-24104, and CPF-24105 (Traffix) to this vulnerability.
Additionally, BIG-IP iHealth may list Heuristic H20486351 on the Diagnostics >
Identified > High page.

features that are affected by the vulnerability, and for information about

Security Advisory Recommended Actions

If you are running a version listed in the Versions known to be vulnerable
column, you can eliminate this vulnerability by upgrading to a version listed
in the Versions known to be not vulnerable column. If the table lists only an
older version than what you are currently running, or does not list a
non-vulnerable version, then no upgrade candidate currently exists.

To determine the necessary upgrade path for your BIG-IQ system, you should
understand the BIG-IQ product offering name changes. For more information,
refer to K21232150: Considerations for upgrading BIG-IQ or F5 iWorkflow systems
.

Mitigation

The only user roles on a BIG-IP system that can exploit this vulnerability are
administrator, resource administrator, and root that have been granted with
Advanced Shell (bash) access. The BIG-IP system is not a general-purpose
computing platform, and the system implements strict access control as well as
strict control with regards to third-party components. Even in cases where
potential vulnerable code is present, the F5 product might never use the
vulnerable function, or elevated access privileges such as root/admin might be
required to exploit the system.

To mitigate this vulnerability, you should permit management access to F5
products only over a secure network, and restrict command line access for
affected systems to trusted users. For more information, refer to K13309:
Restricting access to the Configuration utility by source IP address (11.x -
13.x) and K13092: Overview of securing access to the BIG-IP system.
