ScreenOS (CVE-2016-8610)

PRODUCT AFFECTED:

This issue affects Juniper Networks ScreenOS 6.3.0 prior to 6.3.0r24.

PROBLEM:

A denial of service flaw was found in the way the TLS/SSL protocol specifies
processing of ALERT packets during a connection handshake. A remote attacker
could use this flaw to make the ScreenOS TLS/SSL server consume an excessive
amount of CPU time and trigger a denial of service condition for the ScreenOS
device.

Affected releases are Juniper Networks ScreenOS 6.3.0 prior to 6.3.0r24.

Juniper SIRT is not aware of any malicious exploitation of this vulnerability.

This issue has been assigned CVE-2016-8610.

SOLUTION:

The following software releases have been updated to resolve this specific
issue: 6.3.0r24 and all subsequent releases.

This issue is being tracked as PR 1228608 and is visible on the Customer
Support website.

WORKAROUND:

Use access lists or firewall filters to limit access to the firewall's WebUI
only from trusted hosts

IMPLEMENTATION:

Software Releases, patches and updates are available at
https://www.juniper.net/support/downloads/screenos.html.
