K93122894: OpenSSL vulnerability CVE-2016-0705

Security Advisory

Original Publication Date: Mar 25, 2016
Updated Date: Jan 03, 2018

Security Advisory Description

Double free vulnerability in the dsa_priv_decode function in crypto/dsa/
dsa_ameth.c in OpenSSL 1.0.1 before 1.0.1s and 1.0.2 before 1.0.2g allows
remote attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) or possibly
have unspecified other impact via a malformed DSA private key. (CVE-2016-0705)

Impact

OpenSSL handling of malformed DSA private keys may cause memory corruption and
possibly stop the handling process.

Security Advisory Status

F5 Product Development has assigned IDs 578570 and 579237 (BIG-IP) and ID
579406 (BIG-IQ and F5 iWorkflow) to this vulnerability. Additionally, BIG-IP
iHealth may list Heuristic H93122894 on the Diagnostics > Identified > Low
screen.

* In the default configuration, there is no network access vector. There is no
known Data Plane exposure, and Apache services (Configuration utility/iControl)
are not exposed. Customized applications in iRules LX, iAppsLX, and ECV
monitors that are parsing DSA keys from untrusted input sources may expose this
issue; however, that is a rare configuration. In most cases, this issue would
be exposed only to a logged in user to exploit a vulnerability on the BIG-IP
system.

Security Advisory Recommended Actions

If you are running a version listed in the Versions known to be vulnerable
column, you can eliminate this vulnerability by upgrading to a version listed
in the Versions known to be not vulnerable column. If the table lists only an
older version than what you are currently running, or does not list a
non-vulnerable version, then no upgrade candidate currently exists.

Mitigation

To mitigate this vulnerability, you can restrict administrative access to
trusted users only. Additionally, avoid the processing or use of DSA keys from
untrusted sources in any iRules LX, iAppsLX, or ECV.

Impact of action: Performing the mitigation should not have a negative impact
on your system.
