OVERVIEW:
New versions of stunnel have been released to correct
vulnerabilities.
IMPACT:
According to the stunnel-announce mailing list [1][2]:
"Local privilege escalation bug on Windows NT based systems fixed.
A local user could exploit stunnel running as a service to gain
localsystem privileges." (CVE-2008-2400)
"The bug allows a revoked certificate to successfully authenticate.
Any installations with OCSP enabled should be upgraded ASAP.
Other users are not affected." (CVE-2008-2420)
MITIGATION:
The vulnerability identified by CVE-2008-2400 has been corrected in
version 4.23. The vulnerability identified by CVE-2008-2420 has been
corrected in version 4.24 of stunnel. Users of stunnel are advised to
upgrade to the latest version of stunnel (4.24).
