OVERVIEW:
A vulnerability has been reported in SAP MaxDB 7.6.03 and prior
which can result in the remote execution of arbitrary code.
IMPACT:
The National Vulnerability Database [1], gives the following
information regarding this vulnerability:
o CVE-2008-0024: "SAP MaxDB 7.6.03 build 007 and earlier allows
remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via "&&" and other
shell metacharacters in exec_sdbinfo and other unspecified
commands, which are executed when MaxDB invokes cons.exe." [2]
Exploits for this vulnerability have been published.
MITIGATION:
At the time of this publication there was no patch available to
correct this issue.
Some mitigation steps administrators can take in the meantime
include:
o Restrict access to the database to the local network.
o Be vigilant with log monitoring for any suspicious activity.
