Product: IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Express
Operating System: Windows
Impact: Execute Arbitrary Code/Commands
Access: Remote/Unauthenticated
CVE Names: CVE-2008-0247
Member content until: Monday, February 11 2008
Revision History: January 15 2008: Added CVE Reference
January 14 2008: Initial Release
OVERVIEW:
A vulnerability has been discovered in IBM Tivoli Storage Manager
Express which can result in remote attackers executing arbitrary
code with system privileges.
IMPACT:
IBM describes the vulnerability as follows:
"Specially crafted packets sent to a TSM Express server by an
application directly opening the server TCP socket, not by the TSM
client, could cause a buffer overflow. This buffer overflow could
enable a remote attacker to inject arbitrary code into the TSM
Express server that would run with the privileges of the SYSTEM
user. This could allow a remote attacker to take control of the TSM
Express server." [1]
MITIGATION:
A fix has been released in TSM Express 5.3.7.3 which is available
for download from the IBM website. [2]
