AusCERT Alert Summary
---------------------
Product: McAfee E-Business Server
Operating System: Windows
Impact: Execute Arbitrary Code/Commands
Denial of Service
Access: Remote/Unauthenticated
Member content until: Thursday, February 07 2008
OVERVIEW:
A vulnerability has been identified in McAfee E-Business Server,
which if successfully exploited can result in the execution of
arbitrary code or a denial of service (DoS).
This vulnerability only exists in the Windows version.
IMPACT:
McAfee has published the following details regarding this
vulnerability:
"A vulnerability exists in McAfee E-Business Server. A successful
exploit of the security flaw would allow an attacker to remotely
execute code or crash the running service. In order to accomplish
this exploit, an attacker must send specially modified network
traffic to the server. When the server processes this malicious
traffic, the service will interrupt normal functioning of the server
and may execute code with the same privileges as the LOCAL_SYSTEM
service." [1]
Proof of concept for this vulnerability has been publicly published.
MITIGATION:
E-Business Server 8.5.3 for Windows has been released and is now
available for download.[2]
