Microsoft will be releasing critical security patches for January
on Wednesday 9 January 2008 at:
6:00 am AEDST (ACT, NSW, Tasmania, Victoria)
5:30 am ACDST (SA)
5:00 am AEST (QLD)
4:30 am ACST (NT)
4:00 am AWDST (WA)

DETAILS:
Microsoft will be releasing one security bulletin classed as
critical. This bulletin affects:
o Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
o Windows XP Service Pack 2
o Windows XP Professional x64 Edition and
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Service Pack 2
o Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 and
Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2
o Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition and
Windows Server 2003 x64 Edition Service Pack 2
o Windows Server 2003 with SP1 for Itanium-based Systems and
Windows Server 2003 with SP2 for Itanium-based Systems
o Windows Vista
o Windows Vista x64 Edition
Microsoft will also be releasing one security bulletin classed as
important. This bulletin affects:
o Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
o Windows XP Service Pack 2

MITIGATION:
AusCERT advises that system administrators consider patching their
machines as quickly as possible following their release by Microsoft.
Bulletin information will be available from the Microsoft web site
soon after their release, and AusCERT will be distributing bulletins
to AusCERT members on Wednesday.
Historically, exploits targeting Microsoft vulnerabilities are
released in the days immediately following their announcement, so it
is critical that system administrators apply patches or mitigate
vulnerabilities as quickly as possible.
