2 January 2008

------------------------
Product: Firefox 2.0

Konqueror 3.5.5 and 3.95.00
Mozilla 1.9 M8 and earlier
SeaMonkey 1.1.5
Netscape 9.0
Operating System: Windows
UNIX variants (UNIX, Linux, OSX)
Impact: Provide Misleading Information
Access: Remote/Unauthenticated
CVE Names: CVE-2007-6592 CVE-2007-6591 CVE-2007-6590
Member content until: Wednesday, January 30 2008
OVERVIEW
Several browsers do not indicate when an SSL certificate applies to
multiple hostnames via the subjectAltName:dNSName field [1],
possibly making it easier for attackers to spoof SSL protected
websites.
The browsers affected include Mozilla-base browsers (eg, Firefox,
Netscape and SeaMonkey), Apple Safari 2 and Konqueror. In the cases
of Mozilla based browsers and Safari 2, the relevant fields can be
found in the certificate details - Konqueror may not present this
information at all.
IMPACT
If a user is convinced to accept a certificate for a site and that
certificate includes a wildcard subjectAltName:dNSName field, that
certificate will be accepted for any domain that matches the
wildcard without any indication to the user.
MITIGATION
Users of Safari 2 and Mozilla based browsers can check the
certificate's details for the subjectAltName:dNSName field before
accepting or rejecting a site certificate.
Users of Konqueror cannot check for this field.
Users should be mindful of any SSL certificate prompts, and
should not accept any invalid or self-signed certificates.
