Original Bulletin:
  http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms07-dec.mspx

OVERVIEW

Microsoft will be releasing critical security patches for December
on Wednesday 12 December 2007 at:

6:00 am AEDST (ACT, NSW, Tasmania, Victoria)
        5:30 am ACDST (SA, NT)
        5:00 am AEST (QLD)
        4:00 am AWDST (WA)

Further details are available from the Microsoft web site [1].

DETAILS:

Microsoft will be releasing three security bulletins classed as
        critical:

          o DirectX 7.0 to 10.0 - remote code execution

o Windows Media Format Runtime - remote code execution

          o Internet Explorer 5, 6 and 7 - remote code execution

And four which are classed as important:

o Two for Windows Vista - remote code execution and
            privilege escalation

o Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 - local privilege escalation

o Windows XP and Windows 2000 SP4 - remote code execution

MITIGATION:

AusCERT advises that system administrators consider patching their
machines as quickly as possible following their release by Microsoft.
Bulletin information will be available from the Microsoft web site
soon after their release, and AusCERT will be distributing bulletins
	to AusCERT members on Wednesday.

Historically, exploits targeting Microsoft vulnerabilities are
released in the days immediately following their announcement, so it
is critical that system administrators apply patches or mitigate
	vulnerabilities as quickly as possible.
