-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 AusCERT Update AU-2007.0017 - [Win][UNIX/Linux] PHP 5.2.3 still vulnerable to chunk_split heap overflow vulnerability 6 June 2007 AusCERT Update Summary ---------------------- Product: PHP 5.2.3 and prior Operating System: Windows UNIX variants (UNIX, Linux, OSX) Impact: Execute Arbitrary Code/Commands Access: Existing Account CVE Names: CVE-2007-2872 Member content until: Wednesday, July 04 2007 Ref: AA-2007.0039 OVERVIEW: The chunk_split() heap overflow vulnerability described in AA-2007.0039 was not properly fixed in the recent 5.2.3 PHP release - the code change did not remove the vulnerability. [2] All current released PHP versions including 5.2.3 remain vulnerable to this issue. IMPACT: An attacker who is able to run arbitrary PHP code (e.g. on a shared hosting server) may execute arbitrary code on the server with the privileges of the web server process. In most cases this vulnerability will not be exploitable remotely through a web application. [1] MITIGATION: Corrected patches for this vulnerability have now been committed to CVS but are not yet incorporated in a PHP release.
