AUSCERT External Security Bulletin Redistribution
ESB-2000.031 -- Microsoft Security Bulletin (MS00-010)
Patch Available for "Site Wizard Input Validation" Vulnerability
21 February 2000
===========================================================================
Microsoft Corporation has released the following security bulletin
concerning a security vulnerability in web applications associated with
Microsoft Site Server 3.0, Commerce Edition.
Two sample web sites provided as part of Site Server 3.0, Commerce
Edition do not follow security best practices; the code generated by
one of the wizards in Site Server 3.0 is affected by the same problem.
A malicious user could provide SQL commands to an input field on a webpage
(from either one of the examples or from code generated by a wizard from
Site Server 3.0) which could be executed as part of the query, and may be
used to create, modify, delete or read data in the database associated
with that webpage.
This vulnerability may allow inappropriate access to a database on a web
site created using this software.
Microsoft have made a patch available which may eliminate this problem:
