8 March 2007
AusCERT Update Summary
----------------------
Product: Firefox 2.0.0.1
Firefox 1.5.0.9
SeaMonkey 1.1.0
SeaMonkey 1.0.7
Operating System: Windows
UNIX variants (UNIX, Linux, OSX)
Impact: Execute Arbitrary Code/Commands
Access: Remote/Unauthenticated
CVE Names: CVE-2007-0994
Member content until: Thursday, April 05 2007
Ref: AL-2007.0028
OVERVIEW:
Another vulnerability has been disclosed affecting the previous
versions of Firefox (2.0.0.1 and 1.5.0.9), in addition to the
twelve vulnerabilities previously reported in AL-2007.0028.
In this case, the vulnerability can not be removed by turning off
JavaScript.
IMPACT:
A remote attacker may compromise the user's computer when the user
visits a malicious web page, executing arbitrary code with the
privileges of that user.
MITIGATION:
This vulnerability is fixed in Firefox 2.0.0.2, Firefox 1.5.0.10,
SeaMonkey 1.1.1 and SeaMonkey 1.0.8.
DETAILS:
When an earlier img.src vulnerability (CVE-2006-6503) was fixed in
Firefox 2.0.0.1 and 1.5.0.9, the code introduced a new vulnerability
allowing execution of arbitrary code where the src attribute of an
img tag is set to a specially crafted "javascript:" URI.
In addition, this execution will occur even if JavaScript is disabled
in the global preferences. Thunderbird is not affected.
