AA-2007.0010 AUSCERT Advisory
[Win][UNIX/Linux]
Inappropiate access to JBoss application server management functionality
21 February 2007
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
AusCERT Advisory Summary
------------------------
Product: JBoss Application Server
Operating System: UNIX variants (UNIX, Linux, OSX)
Windows
Impact: Inappropriate Access
Access: Remote/Unauthenticated
Member content until: Wednesday, March 21 2007
OVERVIEW:
A vulnerability in the JBoss application server has been publicly
disclosed. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability may result
in unauthenticated access to administrative functions of the JBoss
server.
IMPACT:
By default, the JBoss server does not limit access to the JMX
Console and Web Console. By visiting a particular URL an attacker
may be able to access information about and functions control the
JBoss Server[1], without authentication. Information about this
vulnerability, including Google search strings designed to enumerate
vulnerable sites has been posted to a public mailing list[2].
MITIGATION:
AusCERT recommends sites running JBoss ensure that access to the JMX
Console and Web Console is limited. Information on doing this can be
found in the JBoss website[3].
