Comment: Adobe Download Manager is bundled with the install of multiple
Adobe products such as Adobe Reader. It may remain installed
on computers which have previously downloaded and installed these
products.
This vulnerability may potentially be exploited when a user
visits a malicious web page, without further user interaction.

A critical vulnerability has been identified in Adobe Download Manager 2.1
and earlier versions that could allow an attacker who successfully exploits
this vulnerability to take control of the affected system. It is recommended
that users uninstall Adobe Download Manager 2.1 and earlier using the
instructions provided below.

It is recommended that users uninstall Adobe Download Manager 2.1 and earlier
using the instructions provided below.

Adobe categorizes this as a critical issue and recommends affected users
uninstall any affected software.
Details:
A critical vulnerability has been identified in Adobe Download Manager 2.1
and earlier versions that could allow an attacker who successfully exploits
this vulnerability to take control of the affected system. This issue is
remotely exploitable. A malicious file must be loaded by the end user, via a
web browser or e-mail client for instance, for an attacker to exploit this
vulnerability. It is recommended that users uninstall Adobe Download Manager
2.1 and earlier using the instructions provided below.
Adobe Download Manager is a stand-alone application that improves the process
of downloading files from Adobe. Customers who have downloaded software from
Adobe, including Adobe Reader, may have Adobe Download Manager installed.
As of December 5, 2006, software distributed from www.adobe.com is using Adobe
Download Manager 2.2, which is not affected by this issue.
To verify if a vulnerable version of Adobe Download Manager is installed, and
to uninstall Adobe Download Manager if necessary, please follow the directions
below:
Windows:
1. Browse to the following location:
<volume>:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\ESD\
2. Locate the file named AdobeDownloadManager.exe. If the directory or
file do not exist, no further action is required.
3. Right-click on the AdobeDownloadManager.exe file and select Properties.
4. Click on the Version tab of the Properties dialog box.
5. If the version is 2.1.x or lower, uninstall using the uninstaller provided here.
Macintosh:
1. Browse to the following location (be sure to check all active volumes):
<volume>:\Applications\Utilities\
2. Locate the file named Adobe Download Manager or Adobe Reader Download
Manager. If the file does not exist, no further action is required.
3. Click on the file and select File>Get Info, or Control-click and select
Get Info.
4. If the version is 2.1.x or lower, uninstall using the uninstaller
provided here. Users of Macintosh Classic OS can use the uninstaller
provided here.
