ESB-1999.175 -- Microsoft Security Bulletin (MS99-043)
Patch Available for "Javascript Redirect" Vulnerability
18 November 1999
===========================================================================
Microsoft Corporation has released the following security bulletin
concerning a vulnerability in Internet Explorer 4.01 and 5. A
webpage may be crafted which bypasses cross-domain data access
restrictions via a redirect to a Javascript applet. This vulnerability
may allow a malicious web site operator to read files on the visiting
browser's computer. A patch has now been provided by Microsoft to
eliminate this vulnerability:
http://www.microsoft.com/Security/Bulletins/MS99-043.asp
( Note: This is the same vulnerability as reported in AusCERT ESB-1999.156
which previously only contained details of a workaround for the
vulnerability. )
