4 August 2005

        AusCERT Update Summary
        ----------------------

Product: BrightStor ARCserve Backup r11.1 and prior
BrightStor Enterprise Backup 10.5 and prior
Operating System: Windows

Ref: AL-2005.020

AusCERT advises that remote exploit code has already been publicly released
for the BrightStor ARCserve/Enterprise Backup vulnerability described in
AusCERT AL-2005.020 "Computer Associates BrightStor ARCserve/Enterprise Backup
Agents buffer overflow vulnerability".

Increased scanning activity to TCP port 6070 is also occurring, indicating that
widespread attempted exploitation of this vulnerability has begun. [1]

AusCERT highly recommends that members using CA Brightstor backup products
apply the security updates described in AL-2005.020 as a matter of urgency.
Additionally, AusCERT encourages users to evaluate their exposure and consider
implementing border filtering on TCP port 6070.
