-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 =========================================================================== AA-2005.013 AUSCERT Advisory Novell eDirectory Authentication Service (NMAS) unauthorized password change vulnerability 2 August 2005 - --------------------------------------------------------------------------- AusCERT Advisory Summary ------------------------ Product: Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 and prior Novell Modular Authentication Service (NMAS) 2.3.7 and prior Operating System: Novell NetWare Windows Linux variants Solaris Impact: Inappropriate Access Access: Remote/Unauthenticated OVERVIEW: The Forgotten Password portal included with Novell eDirectory Authentication Server Modules (NMAS) 2.3.7 and prior may allow a remote attacker to change users' passwords without answering challenge questions. IMPACT: A remote attacker may gain unauthorized access to eDirectory user accounts by changing the passwords, bypassing the password change challenge questions. MITIGATION: Novell has released a patch for NMAS fixing this vulnerability. The patch is supported for eDirectory 8.7.3 IR4 and greater, and can be downloaded from the URL below.
