AusCERT Update AU-2004.0015 - New viruses actively exploiting Internet Explorer IFRAME Buffer Overflow Vulnerability
9 November 2004

        AusCERT Update Summary
        ----------------------

Product: Microsoft Internet Explorer
Operating System: Windows
Impact: Execute Arbitrary Code/Commands

Ref: AL-2004.038

Further to the Internet Explorer IFRAME buffer overflow vulnerability
described in AusCERT Alert AL-2004.038, 2 viruses have been released
actively exploiting this vulnerability.

Infection occurs via clicking a link in an email which links to a web page
containing exploit code.

These viruses use javascript to exploit the vulnerability outlined in
AL-2004.038. Therefore AusCERT advises users to review the steps outlined in
the MITIGATION section of alert AL-2004.038 which is available from
http://www.auscert.org.au/4527, specifically the sections regarding disabling
active scripting in Internet Explorer.

While disabling scripting will prevent infection from these particular viruses,
the underlying vulnerability still exists and may be exploitable without the use
of scripting.

Further information on these viruses can be obtained from the following sources [1],
[2],[3].
