Security Vulnerability in libXt for HP-UX 9.X & 10.X

Hewlett-Packard has released the following revised advisory concerning a
buffer overflow in the Xt library of the X Window System made freely
available by The Open Group. Platforms that have X applications built with
the setuid or setgid bits set may be vulnerable to buffer overflow
conditions. This vulnerability may allow local users to execute arbitrary
instructions as a privileged user without authorization.
The information in this bulletin supersedes the patch information
for Hewlett-Packard provided in Appendix A of CERT/CC advisory
CA-97.11 - Vulnerability in libXt, released as AUSCERT ESB-97-054.

The information in the following Security Bulletin should be acted upon

PROBLEM: Buffer overflow condition in libXt/Error.c
PLATFORM: HP 9000 series 700/800 systems running version 9.X or 10.X
DAMAGE: Users could increase privileges.
SOLUTION: Apply the patches listed below and relink any suid/sgid
programs that use libXt.a. Programs that use the shared
library libXt.sl require no action other than loading
the patches.
AVAILABILITY: All patches are available now.
CHANGE SUMMARY: Correct patches for HP-UX 10.10 now included.

A buffer overflow condition has been identified in the Xt
library. This can be exploited using suid/sgid programs
to increase privileges.
B. Fixing the problem
Apply the library patches and relink any suid/sgid programs
that are linked with the archived version of libXt.
C. Recommended solution
