Abstract
Document information
WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance
Data grids
Software version:
2.0, 2.1, 2.1.0.3
Operating system(s):
Firmware
Reference #:

Modified date:
2013-05-06
A security vulnerability has been discovered that might allow a knowledgeable
user who has network access to a WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance to issue
administrative commands without authentication. Additional vulnerabilities have
been discovered in the SSL/TLS implementations of the Java Runtime Environment
(JRE) shipped with WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance.
Content
These problems affect the following versions of the WebSphere DataPower XC10
Appliance:
WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance 2.0
WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance 2.1
Problem description:
CVE-2013-0600: This vulnerability may allow a knowledgeable user who has
network access to a deployed WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance to send
administrative operations to it without authentication. This vulnerability has
a CVSS base score of 9.3, which indicates that it is a serious problem. If
network access to the appliance is limited by firewalls, this limits the
exposure associated with the vulnerability.
In addition, the Java runtime environments shipped with these levels of the
XC10 have three vulnerabilities in the implementation of SSL/TLS. Exploiters
must have access to the network in which the appliance is deployed, so that
firewalls do provide protection from an external attack. Updated versions of
the Java runtime environment as shipped with the firmware upgrades correct
these problems too. The Java SSL/TLS vulnerabilities are described below:
CVE-2013-0440: This vulnerability might allow a partial denial of service
attack on a WebSphere DataPower XC10 appliance configured to support SSL or
TLS. The CVSS base score is 5.0.
CVE-2013-0443: This very difficult to exploit vulnerability might allow an
unauthenticated attacker to gain access to a subset of data accessible to the
XC10 appliance. The CVSS base score is 4.3.
CVE-2013-0169: This very difficult to exploit vulnerability might allow an
unauthenticated attacker to gain access to a subset of data accessible to the
XC10 appliance. The CVSS base score is 4.0.
Solutions:
For WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance 2.1 on appliance 9235-92X apply the
Version 2.1 Fix Pack 3 firmware upgrade (APAR IC91726)
For WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance 2.1 on appliance 7199-92X apply the
Version 2.1 Fix Pack 3 firmware upgrade (APAR IC91726)
WebSphere DataPower XC10 Appliance users running 2.0 versions of the firmware
can apply one of the version 2.1 firmware upgrades.

*The CVSS Environment Score is customer environment specific and will
ultimately impact the Overall CVSS Score. Customers can evaluate the impact of
this vulnerability in their environments by accessing the links in the
Reference section of this document.
Note: According to the Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (FIRST),
the Common Vulnerability Scoring System (CVSS) is an "industry open standard
designed to convey vulnerability severity and help to determine urgency and
priority of response." IBM PROVIDES THE CVSS SCORES "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF

ACTUAL OR POTENTIAL SECURITY VULNERABILITY.
