AusCERT Week in Review for 13th January 2012

Date: 13 January 2012

Greetings All,

It has been an eventful week with a number of interesting bulletins:

Microsoft released a humble (in number) seven bulletins, with one critical security update for Windows Media.

Cisco officially responded to the brute forcing of WPS; recommending that WPS be disabled.

There were updates and fixes for previously disclosed vulnerabilities in HP Printers and Adobe Reader and Acrobat.

Security (and otherwise) folks will be interested to know that a new version of Wireshark fixes multiple denial of service bugs.

Last but not least there was a rather cheeky, and convincing, phishing email pretending to be from US-CERT. Unfortunately for the would be phishermen, AusCERT staff are not easily fooled!

Well I am going to make my time and sign off for the week; stay safe,
Olivia
