Bulletins a white paper and a job |
|
Date: 16 September 2011 Original URL: http://www.auscert.org.au/render.html?cid=7066&it=14856 Greetings, The end of another week is upon us, and before we have a quick look over the enthralling bulletins this week, there are two things I would like to draw your attention to. Firstly, we are currently revamping some of the tools we use to process the data that comes into and goes out from AusCERT. If you think that you would like to help with that then we would love for you to apply for the current software and sysadmin position we have open. We started out with one sysadmin, and one programmer, but have found that it just wasn't enough, so we are adding a third person to that group. For details please see: - UQ Job site: http://uqjobs.uq.edu.au/jobDetails.asp?sJobIDs=492438 - Seek Job: http://www.seek.com.au/Job/20628451 Secondly, the much talked about discussion paper on the Cyber White Paper is now public and worth a read. The public discussion paper is available at www.cyberwhitepaper.dpmc.gov.au and submissions will be open until the 15th of November. And now - onto the vulnerabilities. It was another week with another Apache HTTPD vulnerability. Thankfully this one looks like it will be a problem for many fewer people, but, as always, better safe than sorry! (ASB-2011.0076.2) It was also Microsoft patch week, and Adobe patch quarter this week (although it feels slightly more often than four times a year I am reading over Adobe bulletins). One other interesting note in the Adobe bulletin is that the "UNIX" version will be released in around 7 or 8 weeks time - just before the next patch day for Adobe. (ESB-2011.0938) Finally the ATO and ABR are still being hit with a malware spam run. We received another metric inbox full of these spam emails again today. Thankfully it looks like some of the domains are starting to be removed, hopefully the rest will follow shortly. (ASB-2011.0077) I know I said finally before, but one other thing - EMC has released an updated version of EMC Avatar, I mean Avamar... must be the blue logo, and the fact I re-watched Avatar on Tuesday.
