Iranian officials confirmed that PCs used by staff of the Iranian nuclear power plant had been affected by Stuxnet. However, there are conflicting media reports about how many affected the Siemen's SCADA systems (if any) and the extent of the damage which has occurred.
Iranian officials claim no "serious" damage had occurred.
The reports nonethless give credence to speculation that the Iranian nuclear power program was the target of sabotage and that the malware has sabotage capabilities - though to what effect still remains unclear - to simply slow or disrupt progress or to cause a nuclear "accident" that endangers life.
