-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- =========================================================================== AUSCERT External Security Bulletin Redistribution ESB-2001.182 -- RHSA-2001:059-03 Updated kdelibs packages fixing security problem and memory leaks available 3 May 2001 =========================================================================== AusCERT Security Bulletin Summary --------------------------------- Product: kdelibs Vendor: Red Hat Operating System: Red Hat Linux 7.1 Platform: i386 Impact: Inappropriate Access Access Required: Local - --------------------------BEGIN INCLUDED TEXT-------------------- - --------------------------------------------------------------------- Red Hat, Inc. Red Hat Security Advisory Synopsis: Updated kdelibs packages fixing security problem and memory leaks available Advisory ID: RHSA-2001:059-03 Issue date: 2001-04-25 Updated on: 2001-04-30 Product: Red Hat Linux Keywords: kdelibs kdesu temporary files memory leak khtml Cross references: Obsoletes: - --------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Topic: Updated kdelibs packages fixing a security problem, some memory leaks and some minor bugs are available. 2. Relevant releases/architectures: Red Hat Linux 7.1 - i386 3. Problem description: kdesu created a world-readable temporary file to exchange authentication information and delete it shortly after. This can be abused by a local user to gain access to the X server and can result in a compromise of the account kdesu accesses. This update also fixes memory leaks in Konqueror (khtml) and KDebug, as well as some minor bugs. kdelibs 2.2alpha1 includes those fixes, as well; if you're using the experimental package from rawhide or ftp.kde.org, you don't need to downgrade to the errata package for security reasons. 4. Solution: Before applying this update, make sure all previously released errata relevant to your system have been applied. To update all RPMs for your particular architecture, run: rpm -Fvh [filenames] where [filenames] is a list of the RPMs you wish to upgrade. Only those RPMs which are currently installed will be updated. Those RPMs which are not installed but included in the list will not be updated. Note that you can also use wildcards (*.rpm) if your current directory *only* contains the desired RPMs. Please note that this update is also available via Red Hat Network. Many people find this an easier way to apply updates. To use Red Hat Network, launch the Red Hat Update Agent with the following command: up2date This will start an interactive process that will result in the appropriate RPMs being upgraded on your system. 5. Bug IDs fixed (http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla for more info): 6. RPMs required: Red Hat Linux 7.1: SRPMS: ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.1/en/os/SRPMS/kdelibs-2.1.2-1.src.rpm i386: ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.1/en/os/i386/kdelibs-2.1.2-1.i386.rpm ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.1/en/os/i386/kdelibs-devel-2.1.2-1.i386.rpm ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.1/en/os/i386/kdelibs-sound-2.1.2-1.i386.rpm ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.1/en/os/i386/kdelibs-sound-devel-2.1.2-1.i386.rpm ftp://updates.redhat.com/7.1/en/os/i386/arts-2.1.2-1.i386.rpm 7.
