OVERVIEW
A vulnerability has been identified in VLC media player version
0.9.9 which allows for execution of arbitrary code. [1]
IMPACT
A stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability exists in a function used
in the module smb.c in VideoLAN VLC media player 0.9.9, when running
on Microsoft Windows. When triggered this allows remote attackers to
cause a denial of service and possibly execute arbitrary code when
processing a specially crafted, long smb URI in a playlist file. [2]
MITIGATION
VideoLAN has published a new version of VLC media player (1.0) which
corrects this vulnerability. [3]
