Comment: The initial release of this alert indicated that all versions of
Windows is affected by this issue. Current information indicates
that only Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 are affected.

OVERVIEW
Microsoft video streaming ActiveX control MsVidCtl is currently being
used to silently install malware on unsuspecting victims. [1]
IMPACT
The vulnerability allows remote code execution with the current
users' privileges.
MITIGATION
Currently there is no patch to correct this issue, however Microsoft
have released an update that will disable the affected ActiveX control
as well as several others that are recommended to be disabled [1,3,4].
If the Microsoft patch is not able to be installed, you can set the
killbit [2] to mitigate this vulnerability yourself by saving the
included text below as a .REG file and importing into your registry.
