OVERVIEW:

Two denial of service vulnerabilities have been reported in
strongSwan due to an error in the pluto IKE daemon.

IMPACT:

The vendor has provided the following details:

       asn1 rdn:

"Applying their fuzzing tool, the Orange Labs vulnerability research
team found a Denial-of-Service vulnerability in the parsing of ASN.1
Relative Distinguished Names (RDNs). Malformed X.509 certificate RDNs
can cause the pluto IKE daemon to crash and restart.

Apply to strongSwan releases 2.2.0 to 2.8.9." [1]

       asn1 time:

"Applying their fuzzing tool, the Orange Labs vulnerability research
team found a Denial-of-Service vulnerability in the parsing of ASN.1
UTCTIME and GENERALIZEDTIME strings. Malformed X.509 certificate time
strings can cause the pluto IKE daemon to crash and restart.

Apply to strongSwan releases 2.2.0 to 2.8.9." [2]

MITIGATION:

The vendor has made patches available for download on their website.
