        AusCERT Advisory Summary

OVERVIEW:

        According to a notice posted on the SquirrelMail site [1], the web
        server was discovered to be compromised at 17:00 GMT on the 16th of
        June 2009.


IMPACT:

        The SquirrelMail team have stated that the compromise is only the
        web server and not the source code repository which is managed by
        SourceForge.

        Currently, as the SquirrelMail team investigates the compromise, the
        plugins for SquirrelMail are unavailable. [2]


MITIGATION:

        Administrators running SquirrelMail may wish to monitor their
        production environments more closely while this investigation
        continues.
