27 May 2009
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
AusCERT Advisory Summary
------------------------
Product: libsndfile 1.0.19 and prior
Winamp 5.552
Operating System: UNIX variants (UNIX, Linux, OSX)
Windows
Impact: Execute Arbitrary Code/Commands
Denial of Service
Access: Remote/Unauthenticated
CVE Names: CVE-2009-1791
Member content until: Wednesday, June 24 2009
OVERVIEW:
A multiple heap-based buffer overflow vulnerability has been found
in libsndfile due to improper bounds checking by the
aiff_read_header() and voc_read_header() functions.
IMPACT:
A remote attacker could trick a user into opening a specially
crafted VOC or AIFF file, overflowing the buffer and possibly
causing a denial of service or executing arbitrary code.
Be aware that this issue also affects Winamp 5.552. [1]
MITIGATION:
Upgrade to the latest version of libsndfile. [2]
