8 April 2009
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
AusCERT Advisory Summary
------------------------
Product: kernel
Operating System: Linux variants
Impact: Denial of Service
Access: Existing Account
CVE Names: CVE-2009-1243 CVE-2009-1242
Member content until: Wednesday, May 06 2009
OVERVIEW:
Two security concerns have been found in the Linux 2.6 kernel
prior to 2.6.29.1.
IMPACT:
The following issues, which could potentially lead to denial
of service, have been confirmed as fixed:
Reading zero bytes from /proc/net/udp or other similar files
which use the same seq_file udp infrastructure panics kernel. [1]
vmx_set_msr() does not allow i386 guests to touch EFER, but they
can still do so through the default: label in the switch. If
they set EFER_LME, they can oops the host. [1]
MITIGATION:
It is recommended to upgrade the Linux kernel to the latest
version.
