Greetings,
Mac OSX
It looks like it is that time of year again. The time where Apple users
feel smug about not having to use any AV software. After all, we know that
Max OSX is secure...
Now, I am not having a go at Apple - actually I like Apple, in fact if
anyone wants to donate a new MacBook Pro or iPhone 3G I would love to taken
them. However reality has struck this week for a number of Mac users (and
fan boys) with 3 notable events.
1) Apple updates (yes updates) a web page that "encourages
the widespread use of multiple antivirus utilities".
2) A new version of the OSX.RSPlug malware (OSX.RSPlug.E) is found that
attempts to install a "Video ActiveX Object". Given that ActiveX is
more of a Windows technology, hopefully some users would ignore it and say
"no" to the dmg install.
3) Apple removed the page from their site "because it was old and
inaccurate". The page can still be found in Google cache.
Windows
We have also just published a bulletin about a SPAM email that attempts
you to download and install a fake AV product. What makes this one a little
more interesting is that currently it has 0% detection in VirusTotal. If
you want more info check out AL-2008.0117.

Our AusCERT 2009 Conference Call for Papers ends today - so if you want
to submit one, get it in ASAP.
