Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a malicious cyber
actor to open a JT file with any of the affected products, leading to
application crash or arbitrary code execution.

The following Siemens software is affected:

  o JT Open: All versions prior to V11.2.3.0 (only affected by CVE-2022-47936,
    CVE-2022-47977)
  o JT Utilities: All versions prior to V13.2.3.0 (only affected by
    CVE-2022-47936, CVE-2022-47977)
  o Parasolid V34.0: All versions prior to V34.0.252 (only affected by
    CVE-2022-47936)
  o Parasolid V34.0: All versions prior to V34.0.254 (only affected by
    CVE-2022-25140)
  o Parasolid V34.1: All versions prior to V34.1.242 (only affected by
    CVE-2022-47936, CVE-2023-25140)
  o Parasolid V35.0: All versions prior to V35.0.170 (only affected by
    CVE-2022-47936, CVE-2023-25140)
  o Parasolid V35.1: All versions prior to V35.1.150 (only affected by

3.2 VULNERABILITY OVERVIEW

3.2.1 STACK-BASED BUFFER OVERFLOW CWE-121

Versions of JT Open, JT Utilities, and Parasolid software are affected by a
stack overflow vulnerability while parsing specially crafted JT files. A
malicious cyber actor could execute code in the context of the current process.

CVE-2022-47936 has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3 base score of
7.8 has been calculated. The CVSS vector string is ( CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/

3.2.2 IMPROPER RESTRICTION OF OPERATIONS WITHIN THE BOUNDS OF A MEMORY BUFFER
CWE-119

Versions of JT Open and JT Utilities software are affected by a memory
corruption vulnerability while parsing specially crafted JT files. A malicious
cyber actor could execute code in the context of the current process.

CVE-2022-47977 has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3 base score of
7.8 has been calculated. The CVSS vector string is ( CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/
UI:R/S:U/C:H/I:H/A:H ).

3.2.3 OUT-OF-BOUNDS READ CWE-125

Versions of JT Open, JT Utilities, and Parasolid software are affected by an
out-of-bounds read past the end of an allocated structure while parsing
specially crafted PAR files. A malicious cyber actor could execute code in the
context of the current process.

CVE-2023-25140 has been assigned to this vulnerability. A CVSS v3 base score of
7.8 has been calculated. The CVSS vector string is ( CVSS:3.1/AV:L/AC:L/PR:N/

Siemens and Michael Heinzl reported these vulnerabilities to CISA.

4. MITIGATIONS

Siemens has released updates for the affected products and recommends users
update to the latest versions:

  o Parasolid V34.0: Update to V34.0.254 or later version
  o Parasolid V35.1: Update to V35.1.150 or later version
  o Parasolid V35.0: Update to V35.0.170 or later version
  o Parasolid V34.1: Update to V34.1.242 or later version
  o Parasolid V34.0: Update to V34.0.252 or later version
  o JT Utilities: Update to V13.2.3.0 or later version
  o JT Open: Update to V11.2.3.0 or later version

Siemens recommends users take appropriate action to mitigate risk:

  o Do not open untrusted files using Parasolid, JT Open Toolkit, or JT
    Utilities

access to devices with appropriate mechanisms. To operate the devices in a
protected IT environment, Siemens recommends configuring the environment
according to Siemens' operational guidelines for industrial security, and
