Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software and Firepower Threat Defense
Software Transparent Mode Denial of Service Vulnerability

Priority: High Advisory ID: cisco-sa-asa-ftd-dos-JxYWMJyL First Published:
2021 October 27 16:00 GMT Version 1.0: Final Workarounds: No workarounds
available Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvx46296 CVE Names: CVE-2021-34793 CWEs: CWE-924

Summary

o A vulnerability in the TCP Normalizer of Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance
(ASA) Software and Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) Software operating in
transparent mode could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to poison MAC
address tables, resulting in a denial of service (DoS) vulnerability.

This vulnerability is due to incorrect handling of certain TCP segments
when the affected device is operating in transparent mode. An attacker could
exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted TCP segment through an
affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to poison the
MAC address tables in adjacent devices, resulting in network disruption.

Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. There
are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.

This advisory is available at the following link:
    https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-asa-ftd-dos-JxYWMJyL

This advisory is part of the October 2021 release of the Cisco ASA, FTD,
and FMC Security Advisory Bundled publication. For a complete list of the
advisories and links to them, see Cisco Event Response: October 2021 Cisco

Cisco has confirmed that this vulnerability does not affect Cisco Firepower
    Management Center (FMC) Software.

Details

o The vulnerabilities are not dependent on one another. Exploitation of one
of the vulnerabilities is not required to exploit the other vulnerability.
In addition, a software release that is affected by one of the
vulnerabilities may not be affected by the other vulnerability.

Details about the vulnerabilities are as follows:

CVE-2021-34790: Cisco ASA Software and Cisco FTD Software Session
    Initiation Protocol ALG Bypass Vulnerability

A vulnerability in the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) ALG for the NAT
feature of Cisco ASA Software and Cisco FTD Software could allow an
unauthenticated, remote attacker to bypass the ALG and open unauthorized
connections with a host located behind the ALG. The SIP ALG is enabled by
    default.

This vulnerability is due to insufficient traffic validation for the SIP
ALG. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending crafted SIP
traffic through the ALG to a host located behind the security device. A
successful exploit could allow the attacker to open unauthorized
connections to the remote host and undertake actions leveraging that host.

Workarounds

o There are no workarounds that address these vulnerabilities. However, there
    is a mitigation.

Customers who do not need the SIP or FTP ALG may disable either or both
ALGs to reduce the attack surface. This can be accomplished from the CLI
for Cisco ASA Software or by using FlexConfig for Cisco FTD Software.

While this mitigation has been deployed and was proven successful in a test
environment, customers should determine the applicability and effectiveness
in their own environment and under their own use conditions. Customers
should be aware that any workaround or mitigation that is implemented may
negatively impact the functionality or performance of their network based
on intrinsic customer deployment scenarios and limitations. Customers
should not deploy any workarounds or mitigations before first evaluating
the applicability to their own environment and any impact to such
    environment.

Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance Software and Firepower Threat Defense
Software Software-Based SSL/TLS Denial of Service Vulnerability

Priority: High
Advisory ID: cisco-sa-ftd-tls-decrypt-dos-BMxYjm8M
First Published: 2021 October 27 16:00 GMT
Version 1.0: Final
Workarounds: No workarounds available
Cisco Bug IDs: CSCvy55054
CVE Names: CVE-2021-34783
CWEs: CWE-119

Summary

o A vulnerability in the software-based SSL/TLS message handler of Cisco
Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Software and Firepower Threat Defense
(FTD) Software could allow an unauthenticated, remote attacker to cause an
affected device to reload, resulting in a denial of service (DoS)
    condition.

This vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of SSL/TLS messages
when the device performs software-based SSL/TLS decryption. An attacker
could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted SSL/TLS message to an
affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to cause the
affected device to reload, resulting in a DoS condition.

Note: Datagram TLS (DTLS) messages cannot be used to exploit this
    vulnerability.

Cisco has released software updates that address this vulnerability. There
are no workarounds that address this vulnerability.

This advisory is available at the following link:
    https://tools.cisco.com/security/center/content/CiscoSecurityAdvisory/cisco-sa-ftd-tls-decrypt-dos-BMxYjm8M

This advisory is part of the October 2021 release of the Cisco ASA, FTD,
and FMC Security Advisory Bundled publication. For a complete list of the
advisories and links to them, see Cisco Event Response: October 2021 Cisco
ASA, FMC, and FTD Software Security Advisory Bundled Publication .

Affected Products

  o Vulnerable Products

This vulnerability affects Cisco devices if they are running the following
Cisco software releases under the following conditions:

    Cisco Affected Releases Vulnerability Details
    Software
ASA 9.16.1 and 9.16.1.28 If affected devices are configured to process
Software inbound SSL/TLS message, they are vulnerable
FTD 7.0.0 and 7.0.01 to crafted SSL/TLS message that are sent to
    Software the device .
6.3.0 and later, but If affected devices are configured with an
FTD earlier than the active SSL Decryption Policy, they are
Software first fixed release vulnerable to crafted SSL/TLS message that
are sent through the device .

For information about which Cisco software releases are vulnerable, see the
Fixed Software section of this advisory.

Determine Whether a Device Could Process Inbound SSL or TLS Messages

To verify whether a device that is running Cisco ASA Software or Cisco FTD
Software could process inbound SSL or TLS messages, use the show asp table
socket | include SSL command and verify that it returns output. When this
command returns any output, the device is vulnerable. When this command
returns empty output, the device is not affected by the vulnerability
described in this advisory. The following example shows the output of the
show asp table socket | include SSL command from a device that is
    vulnerable:

        # show asp table socket | include SSL
        SSL 0005aa68 LISTEN 192.168.4.1:443 0.0.0.0:*
        SSL 0018f7a8 LISTEN 192.168.4.1:8443 0.0.0.0:*

Determine Whether an SSL Decryption Policy Is Enabled

There are two methods for determining whether an SSL decryption policy is
    enabled:

    Option 1: Use the CLI

Use the show ssl-policy-config CLI command to verify whether an SSL
decryption policy is enabled on a device. The following example shows the
output of the show ssl-policy-config command on a device that does not have
an SSL policy configured and is not vulnerable:

        > show ssl-policy-config
        SSL policy not yet applied.

Any other output returned by the show ssl-policy-config command indicates
that an SSL policy is configured and the device is affected by the
    vulnerability described in this advisory.

For more information about the show ssl-policy-config command, see the
Cisco Firepower Threat Defense Command Reference .

    Option 2: Use the GUI

To determine whether an SSL decryption policy is enabled on a device, check
    the appropriate policy:

For devices managed by Firepower Management Center (FMC) :
Policies > Access Control > SSL
For devices managed by Firepower Device Manager (FDM) :
        Policies > SSL Decryption

    Products Confirmed Not Vulnerable

Only products listed in the Vulnerable Products section of this advisory
are known to be affected by this vulnerability.

Cisco has confirmed that this vulnerability does not affect the following
Cisco products when they are running Cisco FTD Software releases 6.3
    through 6.7:

       ASA 5500-X Series Firewalls
       ASA 5500-X with FirePOWER Services

Workarounds
