OVERVIEW:
A flaw in the handling of asynchronous signals was discovered in
Sendmail [1]. A remote attacker may be able to exploit a race
condition to execute arbitrary code as the user running sendmail
(typically root).
IMPACT:
By forcing the SMTP server to have data write timeouts at the
correct instant the attacker may be able to execute arbitrary
code with the privileges of the sendmail process.
MITIGATION:
Sendmail has released version 8.13.6 [2] and patches for
versions 8.13.5 [3] and 8.12.11 [4] to correct this
vulnerability. Sendmail, Inc have also released updates for
commercial versions [5].
