        AusCERT Alert Summary
        ---------------------

Product: sendmail version 8.13.5 and prior
Operating System: UNIX variants (UNIX, Linux, OSX)
Impact: Execute Arbitrary Code/Commands
Access: Remote/Unauthenticated
CVE Names: CVE-2006-0058

Original Bulletin: http://xforce.iss.net/xforce/alerts/id/216

OVERVIEW:

A flaw in the handling of asynchronous signals was discovered in
Sendmail [1]. A remote attacker may be able to exploit a race
condition to execute arbitrary code as the user running sendmail
        (typically root).

IMPACT:

By forcing the SMTP server to have data write timeouts at the
correct instant the attacker may be able to execute arbitrary
code with the privileges of the sendmail process.

MITIGATION:

Sendmail has released version 8.13.6 [2] and patches for
        versions 8.13.5 [3] and 8.12.11 [4] to correct this
vulnerability. Sendmail, Inc have also released updates for
        commercial versions [5].
