A new variant of the NETSKY worm has been found in the wild. TrendLabs HQ
received numerous infection reports of this new malware spreading in the
United States.
This memory-resident worm propagates through SMTP mail and drops copies
of itself in network shares. It drops several copies of itself through
various shared folders in Windows, using enticing file names.
This malware also drops a copy of itself in the Windows folder using the
file name WINLOGON.EXE. It uses varying email details in the message it
sends out.
As of February 25, 2004 9:20 AM (US Pacific Time), TrendLabs has declared
a YELLOW ALERT to control the spread of WORM_NETSKY.C.
TrendLabs will be releasing the following EPS deliverables:
TMCM Outbreak Prevention Policy 83
Official Pattern Release 779
Damage Cleanup Template 267
