SSRT3629 Security Vulnerability in HP-UX Secure Shell

NOTICE: There are no restrictions for distribution of this
Bulletin provided that it remains complete and intact.
The information in the following Security Bulletin should be
acted upon as soon as possible. Hewlett-Packard Company will
not be liable for any consequences to any customer resulting
from customer's failure to fully implement instructions in this
Security Bulletin as soon as possible.

PROBLEM: OpenSSH daemon has a buffer management error.
IMPACT: Possible privilege increase, remote execution of code.
PLATFORM: HP 9000 Servers running HP-UX releases B.11.00, B.11.11
and B.11.22 only with the T1471AA HP-UX Secure Shell
product installed.
SOLUTION: New binaries have been prepared and are available
for the following HP-UX releases:
B.11.22 T1471AA_A.03.61.002_HP-UX_B.11.22_IA.depot
B.11.11 T1471AA_A.03.61.002_HP-UX_B.11.11_32+64.depot
B.11.00 T1471AA_A.03.61.002_HP-UX_B.11.00_32+64.depot
MANUAL ACTIONS: Yes - NonUpdate
Download and install the appropriate depot from
the ftp site (see below).
AVAILABILITY: The new HP-UX Secure Shell depot is available now.

A. Background
Pursuant to the CERT Advisory CA-2003-24 on OpenSSH,
Hewlett-Packard Company has learned of a defect in the
code in SSH, product number T1471AA.
AFFECTED VERSIONS:
The following is a list by HP-UX revision of
affected filesets and the fileset revision or
patch containing the fix. To determine if a
system has an affected version, search the
output of "swlist -a revision -l fileset"
for an affected fileset, then determine if
a fixed revision or the applicable patch is
installed.

B. Fixing the problem
HP has produced the following new depots which fix this
defect for its version, which is based on OpenSSH release
3.6.2. Called A.03.61.002, it is the newest version of
HP-UX Secure Shell.
