OVERVIEW
Sun have released updates for Java correcting multiple security
vulnerabilities.
IMPACT
The vendor has provided the following information regarding these
vulnerabilities [1][2]:
* JRE AWT setDifflCM vulnerable to Stack Overflow
* JRE AWT setBytePixels vulnerable to Heap Overflow
* Component and [Default]KeyboardFocusManager pass security
sensitive objects to loggers
* Disable MD2 in certificate chain validation
* SECURITY: MessageDigest.isEqual introduces timing attack
vulnerabilities
* Sun Java HsbParser.getSoundBank Stack Buffer Overflow
Vulnerability
* Numerous static security flaws in Swing (findbugs)
* (tz) TimeZone.getTimeZone allows probing local filesystem
* ImageI/O JPEG is vulnerable to Heap Overflow
* Deployment Toolkit plugin "launch" method vulnerable to
exploits
* arbitary code execution using java web start
* DoS from parsing BMPs with UNC ICC links
MITIGATION
These vulnerabilities have been corrected in Version 6 Update
17 and Version 5 Update 22.
